# Diesel Generators

#### All Generators

Many things are consistent between Generator Types. All Generators require [Diesel Fuel Cans](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-can.md) or [Diesel Fuel Barrels](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-barrel.md) to be in them in order to generate normal [Power](/mechtrauma/dead-links/power-types.md). All other items (with the exception of [Keys](/mechtrauma/dead-links/keys.md),) are technically not needed. However it would be a fool's gambit to run a generator without at least an [Oil Can](/mechtrauma/items/liquids/oil/oil-can.md) as this is what keeps it running smoothly, and prevents it from catching on fire. [Oil Filters](/mechtrauma/dead-links/oil-filter.md) can also be placed in all generators, and slow down the rate at which oil is consumed when running. All Generators besides the PDG500 and PDG250 are toggled on and off via menu buttons while in its inventory, or toggled on and off by an input from [Wiring](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Wiring). All Generators can have their max output changed in the [Sub Editor](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Submarine_Editor).

#### PDG250 & PDG500

The only difference between these two generators is their output; them being 250kw and 500kw respectively. These can both be picked up and be carried by a player slowing them down considerably, and are thus considered [Heavy Items](/mechtrauma/dead-links/heavy-items.md). Despite this, they are not allowed to be put into a [Hand Truck](/mechtrauma/dead-links/hand-truck.md). Both Generators degrade in quality while they are being carried at a slow rate. The Portable Diesel Generators are the only Generators that require a [Key](/mechtrauma/dead-links/keys.md) to turn them on or off, and are therefore unable to be toggled via [Wiring](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Wiring). These both accept one [Diesel Fuel Can](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-can.md).

#### s1500D Diesel Generator

The s1500D functions like most other generators. It has a power output of 1500kw. It accepts [Diesel Fuel Cans](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-can.md).

#### S3000D Diesel Generator

The s3000D functions like most other generators. It has a power output of 3000kw. It accepts [Diesel Fuel Barrels](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-barrel.md). Looks identical to the s5000D.

#### s5000D Diesel Generator

The s5000D functions like most other generators. It has a power output of 5000kw. It accepts [Diesel Fuel Barrels](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-barrel.md).

#### Series C Generators

This is a line of Generators which output 2500kw of [Power](/mechtrauma/dead-links/power-types.md). They are all functionally identical, and the series includes the sC2500Da, the sC25000Db, and the sC2500Dc. These all accept [Diesel Fuel Barrels](/mechtrauma/dead-links/diesel-fuel-barrel.md).

The item ID for the PDG250 is "PDG250". The item ID for the PDG500 is "PDG500". The item ID for the s1500D is "s1500D". The item ID for the s5000D is "s5000D. The Item IDs for the Series C Generators are "sC2500a", "sC2500b", and "sC2500c".
