# S5 Extinguisher

The S5 Extinguisher is an alternative to the [Fire Extinguisher](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Fire_Extinguisher) (and [L100-Extinguisher](/mechtrauma/items/gear/tools/l100-extinguisher.md)) which can be stored in the inventory. Unlike the [Fire Extinguisher](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Fire_Extinguisher) which lasts for 50 seconds, or the [L100-Extinguisher](/mechtrauma/items/gear/tools/l100-extinguisher.md) which lasts for 100 seconds, the S5 Extinguisher only lasts for 5 seconds. 1 [Aluminum](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Aluminum) Yields 4 S5 Extinguishers. Required Skill: 20 Mechanical.

#### Usage

The S5 Fire extinguisher is used like any other tool. Simply hold down right click to aim, and hold down left click to continuously fire (perhaps fire is not the most appropriate word choice). A white cloud functionally identical to the one produced by the [Fire Extinguisher](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Fire_Extinguisher) is produced which snuffs out fires over time while it overlaps with them.

#### Tips

The S5 Extinguisher can be useful for dealing with small fires that may arise should electrical systems combust. It can be wise to carry one with you for this reason. Bringing one (or two) could also be advisable when entering abandoned outposts for the purpose of dealing with any hostiles present who may have a [Flamer](https://barotraumagame.com/wiki/Flamer). Simply deal with them using firearms, and quickly extinguish any fires before they can spread. If you are not quick enough, the S5 Extinguisher will likely run out of nitrogen before the fire is extinguished, hence why it may be wise to carry a second one if you are intending to it for this purpose.
